Robert Hughes, which is principal director/producer of the Nostradamus special, wanted to shoot a Joust scene to recreate a prophecy. Bob found a Joust Club outside LA and we spent a day shooting horses and men in armor. Bob moves fast which became handy as we kept having logistical delays. One of the horses was running at full speed and the rider lost control a couple of times making my AC/Red owner worried about losing his camera in a snap of a second. At the end it all went as planned and nobody got hurt.

Norwegians in the Mist

NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) hired me to shoot two documentaries for Norwegian host star Alexander Rose; one on the life of Thor Halvorssen – a Venezuelan/Norwegian businessman who was the special commissioner/czar for international narcotic affairs, during the Carlos Andres Perez Administration in Venezuela and a second documentary on Norwegians seeking for emeralds in the Colombian jungle. This last project involved a Norwegian psychic who is helping another Norwegian businessman find emeralds using his mental powers. We went deep and far away from Bogota and we shot this surreal adventure with P2 cameras & super 8 film. Last I heard they liked the first cut so much they decided two make two shows instead of one.

Looking for Nostradamus in Romania

This past December, I was in Bucharest shooting with director Pavel Cantu re-enactments for a Discovery Channel special on Nostradamus. We covered Marie Antoinette in the guillotine, Napoleon, the plague, The Assault of Bastille, The Inquisition, the Fires of London and Nostradamus young & old. For period themes, I think it is hard to beat Rumania as they do have excellent natural locations as well as great period sets (streets, castles, etc). Pavel came very prepared and draw wonderful boards, which made my life easy all the way through. It was cold and the Red cameras gave us some problems (polarized viewfinder, short life batteries) but it was worth bringing them as the quality speaks for itself. We worked at Media Pro and Castle Studios with a local and seasoned crew, and overall we had a great shoot. We arrived to LA with 9 hours of material and we color corrected at Timecode Multimedia were Stuart Ferreira did a great job. The TV show is scheduled to air in June. Here are some frame grabs.
Let the Healing begin…Viva las Vegas!
The spot "Healing" spot was produced by R&R Partners for the city of Las Vegas and directed by Shaun Conrad, which aired after the presidential election. The spot was also selected for the TBS holiday special, "Funniest Commercials of the Year" with Host Kevin Nealon. It was a last minute job but Shaun made it fun and the message was right on….
Face of Music - an update
It seems that the pilot “Faces of Music” was a complete success and Red Bull Network is now looking to produce 15 episodes in the very near future. Producer and musician Peter Wolf came with a great concept and director Francisco Lorite aplied his vision with lots of passion. Photographing the band Chicago was a treat and I am looking forward to see the next phase of this collaboration.
